The minister of Trade, industry and cooperatives Sanjay Tanna together with the state minister of Trade David Bahati have engaged Presidential C.E.O forum and manufacturers which took place at the Kampala industrial and business park Namanve.
The tour and engagement was organized by the ministry of trade, presidential C.E.O forum in conjunction with the Uganda investment authority with the the theme of amplifying Uganda's industrial agenda for the tenfold growth economy.
During the engagement the manufacturers cited the erratic power supply, poor roads supply among others as bottlenecks raising production costs and disrupting supply chains which have contributed to the raising cost of doing business.
The Uganda manufacturers keep highlighting the challenges they face such as the increasing substandard products on the Uganda market that outcompete the genuine products by registered manufacturers and delays in the certification of products which take long time to be addressed by the Uganda national bureau of standards.
The ministers together with other officials conducted factory visits to four industries including Ntake edible oil refinery, Luuka plastics, steel and tube industry and Staunch Machinery.
The tour aimed at assessing Uganda's industrial progress and engaging manufacturers on their contribution to the country's ambition of growing the economy by 2040.
" I want to commend the proprietors and urge them to adopt clean energy solutions like solar to support the government metering initiative, even local skilling and apprenticeship initiatives in the industrial and manufacturing sectors to reduce unemployment, said Sanjay Tanna the Minister of Trade industry and cooperatives.
"I want to applaud the investors for collectively contributing approximately shs 250 billion in taxes and employing 3000 Ugandans, said David Bahati the state minister of Trade.
The two two ministers promised government intervention to address the bottlenecks to Uganda's industrialization agenda and also urged private sector solutions.
The Ministry of Trade is engaged in multiple partnerships and engagements to boost local business and to eliminate manufacturing bottlenecks with the goal of achieving Uganda's strategy of expanding the size of the economy to $ 500 billion by 2040.
