On June 11, 2026, the Internal Communication Research Hub Africa (ICRH Africa), the African regional hub of the Internal Communication Research Hub (ICRH Global), was officially launched to strengthen research, collaboration, and thought leadership on internal communication across the continent while ensuring African perspectives contribute meaningfully to global conversations on workplace communication.
Hosted by the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), Ghana, and established in collaboration with the Internal Communication Research Hub at the University of Florida, ICRH Africa was created as a dedicated platform to advance research and professional practice in internal communication across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The initiative brings together researchers, practitioners, and students committed to generating knowledge and deepening understanding of workplace communication within diverse African organizational contexts.

The launch came at a time when organizations across Africa continue to navigate significant change driven by digital transformation, globalization, workforce diversification, and evolving organizational structures.
Despite these developments, internal communication remains a relatively under-researched field in many parts of the continent, creating a need for evidence-based insights that reflect Africa’s unique workplace realities.

Through research, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, ICRHAfrica aims to generate Africa-centered scholarship on internal communication, examine workplace communication practices across diverse organizational settings, foster partnerships among researchers and practitioners, and translate research findings into practical insights that support organizational effectiveness. The hub also seeks to promote professional development through webinars, publications, and other learning opportunities.
Speaking during the launch, Antoinette Gyan, Coordinator of ICRH Africa, emphasized the importance of building a stronger body of knowledge rooted in African experiences.
“Africa’s workplace environments are dynamic, diverse, and evolving rapidly, yet there remains limited research that captures these realities from an African perspective. ICRH Africa provides an opportunity to build evidence-based knowledge, strengthen collaboration between academia and practice, and ensure that African voices contribute meaningfully to global conversations on internal communication,” she said.
Rita Men, Director of the Internal Communication Research Hub at the University of Florida, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the value of broadening global understanding of workplace communication through African scholarship.
“Strong internal communication contributes significantly to employee engagement, trust, and organizational effectiveness. We are excited to work with ICRH Africa in expanding research and ensuring that African perspectives and experiences are represented within global scholarship and practice,” she said.
The launch of ICRH Africa marked an important milestone in advancing internal communication research across the continent and created new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional growth among scholars and practitioners.
By placing African workplace realities at the center of research and dialogue, the initiative is expected to contribute to a more inclusive and representative understanding of internal communication worldwide.
